Built into the rocky edge of a hill, Kande draws attention to the natural textures and colours of its building materials. Paintings on rough wood inspired by Kandy’s famous Temple of the Tooth adorn the walls everywhere you look. Rustic stone steps lead to the rooms, each with its own delicately designed stained glass doors which echo flowers featured in drawings in Kandyan temples. The tables and cupboards are constructed out of discarded doors and windows brightened with old sarees, while restored antique chairs invite you to rest and relax. Each piece of furniture and each feature that tells a story of a different time in a different life come together beautifully to offer you an experience that is unique and special.
